Welcome to St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Clifton, Virginia. We’re glad you’re here! Here are a few facts about our Church and community.
St. Clare’s was established on September 22, 1980, by the Most Reverend Thomas J. Welsh, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia. We were originally established as a mission parish, first as a mission of St. Timothy Parish in Chantilly, Virginia, and subsequently as a mission of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Clifton, Virginia.
In St. Clare’s early years, mass was celebrated at either the Clifton Presbyterian Church or the Clifton Community Center. Construction began on St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in 1990, and the church was dedicated on May 12, 1991, by the Most Reverend John R. Keating, Bishop of Arlington, Virginia.
Subsequently, on August 11, 1996, Bishop Keating established St. Clare’s as an independent parish. Today, the parish serves approximately 350 families living in the vicinity of Clifton, Virginia, under the stewardship of our pastor, Reverend Michael J. Bazan (Father Mike).
